1. Introduce the Leadership Team
2. Discuss plans for this year’s program, including:

• Starters (10 yrs old & under)
• Junior Girls and Boys (11 – 12 yrs old)
• Jr. High Girls & Boys (13 – 14 yrs old)
• High School Girls & Boys (15 – 18 yrs old)

3. Introduce coaches
4. Distribute Tentative Game Schedule (Jr.Hi./H.S.teams)
5. Distribute registration packets
6. Collect ‘early-bird’ payments & paperwork (forms on website soon)
7. Describe family volunteer opportunities
8. Snack & Fellowship
9. Organized activities/games for pre-school through high-school students will be conducted in the gym. There will be a snack/water break for them as well. Children are welcome to remain in the meeting with their parents if that is preferred.

Bring:

• The whole family… (and gym shoes for the kids!)
• A NEW home schooling family to see what we’re about!

BASKETBALL CAMP will be held on August 18, 19, & 20:  Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday.

9 to 11a.m. …………7 – 12 year olds will meet in the mornings
7 to  9 p.m. ……….13 – 18 year olds will meet in the evenings

Joe Sunderman has enthusiastically agreed to teach our basketball camp again and requested the above dates! We are very grateful for his willingness and availability to us.This year, we are dividing the camp by age, into morning and evening sessions. This will hopefully allow for more individualized attention and specific instruction for various positions on the court.

Anyone aware of a new family joining us this next season, please invite them to participate in the fund raiser or let us know so that we can contact them. Last year several new families were eager to help out.

We are always in need of trash bags if anyone can donate them or are able to buy them at a discount please let Denny and Jayne know. There is also a list of needed items below. If you are able to provide any of these items let Jayne know when you contact her.

Sunday the 22nd is the only Sunday we must clean on, many of you are not able to, of course, but we usually are able make it to church services on time if we have enough help.

Please check 2 or more dates that you prefer to help other than Monday the 30th (everyone helps the last day). As days fill in we will send updates. This will make it much easier for scheduling.

We meet at 6:20 am each morning for prayer and assigning and then begin promptly at 6:30 . Most days require approx. 2 hrs. or so depending upon the previous events.

If we do not hear from you by August 9, we will call you to assign days where needed. Some people actually prefer this.

*We need everyone that can make it on Monday the 30th to be done by noon or so.

As a coach he had only one losing season, that being his very first.  He also set records for most consecutive victories in a row (88); NCAA Championships (10, 7 in a row from ‘67-’73); consecutive tournament games won (38); plus more.  His over-all college record was 664-162, an unbelievable 80.4% winning percentage!  You could list many other stats, records, and details to his 40 year coaching career and they all speak to the amazing coach that he was.

But one of the biggest reasons I have studied his coaching methods in the past few years is that I find I think alike in a lot of the things that he emphasized not only as a coach, but as a mentor to youth.  He saw himself as more then just a coach, he sought to influence  and mentor his players to become all that they could be both on and off the court.  His view of success what not about winning at all cost, but about being the best that “you” possibly could be and giving your all towards accomplishing your best!  If you do your best you are already successful, no matter the outcome.

He lived his life as an example, not demanding from others what he was not willing to live for himself. For example, I love this quote of his “No written word, no oral plea, can teach our youth what they should be; nor all the books on all the shelves, it’s what the teachers are themselves.” He longed for his faith to shine through in everything that he did  and hoped that if he was one day brought to trial for his faith, that he would be convicted.  It is easy to see that his faith was the basis on how he defined himself and it was the foundation and everything else was after that, including basketball.  It wasn’t about the wins, the trophies, the championships or records; it was about glorifying God with everything that he had. Girls will play from 5:00 – 7:00pm and boys from 7:00 – 9:00pm. Lima Community Church IS NOT supplying basketballs. Please bring your own.

Lima Community Church requires that everyone must bring a signed and notarized Waiver and Liability Release form in order to participate.  Faith Sellers will have forms available on the first Tuesday (April 6) OR you can download the forms here.  Renee Painter will also be there –ONLY at 7:00pm– to notarize forms. The open gym nights are not official Ohio HEAT events, however Coaches Painter and Davis will be on-location most evenings to offer assistance to those desiring it.  The open gyms are most appropriate for Junior team players and older.  Families are welcome to attend.  Younger children must be accompanied by an adult.  Ohio HEAT is not supplying supervision.

Continued availability of the gym depends on good attendance at the events. Lima Community Church retains the right to use the gym on Tuesday evenings if a Church event requires it.  We will attempt to send an advance e-mail notification if we become aware of a schedule conflict.
